Man chased, fired at while on walk with family in west Edmonton

Edmonton police are investigating the “brazen daylight shooting” of a man who was out for an early-evening walk with his family Saturday in the Ormsby Place neighbourhood.
The Edmonton Police Service released video footage of the shooting, which happened around 6:45 p.m. at Ormsby Crescent.
Video provided by police shows the man pushing a stroller on the sidewalk, followed by a woman pushing a second stroller. A red Nissan Rogue can be seen pulling up, with two masked suspects emerging from the back seat.
The suspects chase the man, who trips over one of the strollers, while firing multiple gunshots at him.
Police say the suspects chased the man through the green area between Ormsby Crescent and Ormsby Road East NW, while still firing shots at him. The suspects then returned to the vehicle and fled the area, according to police.
Neither the man nor his family were hit by gunfire, police say.
EPS investigators believe it was a targeted event.

“This was an extremely dangerous incident that occurred in broad daylight in a residential neighbourhood filled with families,” said Acting Insp. Eric Stewart with the EPS organized crime branch.
“It’s fortunate there weren’t other children or people in the park at that time Saturday, or we may be talking about innocent people getting injured or even killed.”
Stewart added, “We’re seeing more of these types of reckless, careless type shooting events.. they’re happening more in broad daylight hours…in residential areas where there’s family, potential for kids to be playing. There used to be a little bit of a respect level amongst these groups…but clearly by this, and what we’ve seen historically in some other events…it seems to be gone out the window.”
EPS says several 911 calls came in about gunshots in the area.
Investigators are hoping members of the public may be able to identify the suspects or the suspect vehicle, or provide additional video footage. Residents of the area are also being asked to check the exteriors of their homes for any potential damage caused by bullets.
The EPS firearms investigation unit is investigating.
