An Edmonton teacher has been arrested and charged in connection to a child luring and child pornography investigation.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams says the teacher is also being investigated for similar offences in Florida.
On May 20, ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit charged 27-year-old Brennan Gorman with child luring, making, transmitting, and possessing child pornography, in relation to sex offences he allegedly committed against a girl in Parkland County.
ICE was reportedly already looking at Gorman as the likely suspect in the Parkland County case, when they received a tip from officers in West Palm Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
According to ICE, authorities in Florida were investigating the disappearance of a young girl and had information that Gorman may have been involved or had knowledge of her disappearance.
Since ALERT and the RCMP were notified, the young girl in Florida was found safe. Authorities in the U.S. noting there “isn’t a reason to believe Gorman was involved in her disappearance.”
Despite this, Gorman is still being investigated for online interactions with the youth, which may lead to additional child pornography related charges.
It is believed there might be additional victims in the Edmonton area. ICE note that Gorman may have used the alias “Steve” when identifying himself.
ICE says Gorman most recently worked at Balwin Junior High School, where he taught children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Other schools and daycares where he’s worked include:
- Discoveryland Childcare & OSC, Edmonton (2018);
- Richard Secord Out of School Care, Edmonton (2018-2019);
- Klarvatten Plaza Daycare, Edmonton (2019 – 2020);
- Good Shepherd Elementary School (2020);
- Little Learners St. Albert (2021);
- Little Learners Fort Rd (2021);
- Belmead School (2022).
ALERT noted that Edmonton Public Schools and the daycares listed are fully cooperating with the investigation.
Gorman has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5.
In conjunction with his release, he is facing a number of court-imposed conditions, which includes: not being unable to maintain employment that would place him in the position of trust or authority over a youth, and not to attend any schools.
Anyone with any information regarding Gorman, is asked to contact investigators at 780-423-4567, their local RCMP, or anonymously online at Cybertip website.
