Elks offering guaranteed win tickets to try and get fans in the stands for 2023 season

After losing their last 17 home games at Commonwealth Stadium, the Edmonton Elks are getting creative to get fans in the stands. As Laura Krause reports, buying a ‘guaranteed win ticket’ means fans can buy a seat, and keep it until the Elks win a home game.

The Oilers are done with their Stanley Cup run, just as football season gets underway.

Prior to kickoff for 2023, The Edmonton Elks are finding ways to get fans in the stands. After losing their last 17 home games at Commonwealth Stadium.

“Obviously there has been some frustration,” said Evan Daum, senior marketing manager with the Edmonton Elks.

“Anytime you play at home or anywhere, you want to win the game. So it’s been a little bit frustrating that we haven’t had success here at Commonwealth Stadium, but we’re confident we are going to change that.”

The Elks last won a home game on October 12, 2019, when they beat the BC Lions 19-6.

Since then, the franchise has rebranded taking the name Elks, while also posting a 3-11 record in 2021 and a 4-14 record in 2022, finishing last in the West Division in both seasons.

Despite this, the team wants to guarantee you’ll see them break that losing streak with guaranteed win tickets to their regular season home opener.

“We’re guaranteeing that you will see us win at home this season.”

A guaranteed win ticket means fans can buy a seat, and keep it until the Elks win a home game.

“It’s a win-win for them. They get an opportunity to either see us win that home opener, or come back and see us again,” said Daum.

And while the Edmonton Elks couldn’t find a way to win at home, some fans stayed dedicated to the team.

“Fans that have stuck with us are really dedicated, passionate fans and I think they are excited about this season and know that we are going to snap this streak right away,” said Daum.

Linda Wood Edwards, who’s one of those dedicated Elks fans says, “It’s my job as a fan, I have the highest hope every time I come and watch a practice. There’s no reason for them not to do everything that they want to do.”

Paul Rechner, another Edmonton Elks fan adding, “I’m optimistic it won’t take longer than the first game to end that streak.”

The CFL training camp opened over the weekend. Going into the preseason, head coach Chris Jones says consistency is key.

“So many times in this day and age, people want a pat on the back just for what they’re supposed to do. That’s what we’re supposed to do, is to come out, be consistent, coach consistent, play consistent,” said Chris Jones, head coach and GM of the Edmonton Elks.

Kids 12 and under will once again get to watch the Elks for free this season, with a paid adult ticket.

The Edmonton Elks first regular season home game is June 11, against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
