Oilers watch parties at Ice District open for all ages once again

Edmonton Oilers watch parties at the Ice District outside Rogers Place are once again open to fans of all ages.

Underage fans were barred from the tailgate party in Fan Park and the playoff plaza in Ice District earlier this month following a series of incidents

That changed Saturday after Ice District officials say they made “enhancements” to fencing, security and entry procedures.

The Edmonton Oilers are facing elimination from the second round of the NHL playoffs after going down 3-2 in the series against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Puck drop for Game 6 at Rogers Place is 8 p.m. Sunday.

Some of the changes made to the viewing parties on May 2 included requiring visitors to show identification, and forbidden re-entry.

Dangerous beahviour at fan events in the first round prompted the city and the Oilers Entertainment Group to make the changes.

Social media videos showed fans throwing beer cups into the air in celebration during the first round of the playoffs against the L.A. Kings. Later in the series, fans could be seen rushing a barricade to enter the viewing party once it was at capacity.

A video circulating on social media showed someone wielding a knife and wearing an Oilers jersey before getting shot by police. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
