Alleged getaway driver in 2021 Edmonton restaurant shooting turns himself in: police

Police say a man is in custody in connection with a “targeted” shooting at a south Edmonton restaurant in October 2021.

Harsh Jindal, 26, was wanted on multiple criminal warrants including attempted murder. He turned himself in to police on Thursday night and was taken into custody.

The Edmonton Police Service alleges Jindal was the getaway driver involved in the Oct. 8 shooting at a restaurant in a commercial complex at 12 Avenue and 101 Street SW.

Surveillance video shows a suspect walking up to a restaurant and firing through a window, forcing a family to dive out of the way of gunfire.

A man was taken to hospital with non‐life‐threatening injuries. Other family members, including children, staff and restaurant patrons were not injured.

The suspect fled the scene on foot before getting into an SUV driven by a second suspect.

Police believe that second suspect was Jindal. A total of 17 warrants were issued for his arrest on April 12.

Investigators say they have yet to identify the shooter.
