Man killed, daughter shot on New Year’s Day in Edmonton was case of mistaken identity: police

A man has been charged in connection with the death of Barinder Singh and the shooting of his daughter on New Year’s Day in Edmonton, which police say was a case of mistaken identity.

BACKGROUND: EPS confirms homicide in death of 51-year-old man in Edmonton

Police say Singh, 51, was shot at a home on 16A Avenue and 38 Street. He died of his injuries in hospital.

His 21-year-old daughter was also shot. She was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Investigators believe Singh and his daughter were victims of a wrongly targeted shooting.

Edmonton police issued a Canada-wire warrant for the arrest of Tevahn Orr on Feb. 14.

Orr turned himself in to police in Hamilton, Ont., on March 21.

Police say he has since been transported to Edmonton.

He is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent.
