A 53-year-old man is dead five days after a motorcycle crash in northeast Edmonton.

The Edmonton Police Service says the accident happened April 9 around 2 p.m. on Manning Drive near 167 Avenue.

The motorcyclist was going northbound on Manning when the vehicle in front of him braked suddenly at a changing traffic light, police said.

“The motorcyclist braked and swerved to the right to avoid striking the vehicle, then subsequently lost control on loose gravel on the shoulder causing him to fall off the motorcycle,” EPS said in a statement.

Paramedics treated the man and took him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man’s condition worsened “due to medical complications,” according to police. He died in hospital Friday.

The EPS major collisions investigation section is investigating.

Police are calling it the first motorcycle fatality in Edmonton this year.
