One in hospital following targeted attack, teen in custody: police

Police in Edmonton say an 18-year-old is in hospital following an assault at the Southgate Shopping Centre.
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) say, around 3:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving several individuals near the mall’s food court.
Paramedics responded to the scene and took the 18-year-old to hospital with serious injuries.
EPS say the 18-year-old was stabbed and physically assaulted during the incident. As of Thursday, he was upgraded to stable condition.

Investigators believe the incident was a targeted attack.
As of 6 p.m., one suspect — a 16-year-old — is in custody, and police say they are still looking to identify other suspects, who are believed to be in the area.
As of Thursday, EPS say no charges have been laid.
Police have closed access to the mall through the food court and west to the LRT Station.
