Edmonton police releasing new video in hopes of solving Abdullah Shah’s murder

On the anniversary of the murder of Edmonton's most notorious landlord, Abdullah Shah (Carmen Pervez), Edmonton Police are sending a message to those who have tried to obstruct the investigation.

A year after 59-year-old Abdullah Shah was murdered outside his home in southwest Edmonton, police are releasing new evidence in the hopes it will assist their investigation.

In March 2022, Shah was shot in his driveway, near Heath Road and Riverbend Road.

He was taken into emergency surgery at the hospital but died of his injuries. Shah’s family was home at the time of the shooting.

At the time, police released CCTV footage showing a medium-sized grey SUV believed to be the suspect vehicle.

In the new video released by Edmonton police, Shah could be seen driving down Heath Road before arriving at his home.

Seconds after he parks at his home, the grey SUV, which police have confirmed to be a 2015 Toyota Highlander, pulls up near Shah’s vehicle.

Within a span of two minutes, the same SUV could be seen driving away on Heath Road.

“Those in the vehicle? I would love to speak to them,” said Detective Jared Buhler. “I suspect they were not acting on their own behalf. But this investigation is progressing and I would love to know what their circumstances were.”

Shah was well known to the police. With a checkered past and a presence that hung over Edmonton’s inner city, police said a complex victim, making for a complex murder investigation. They added, they are aware of those trying to destroy evidence or deceive investigators.

“Your actions and misinformation have been recognized and your motivation is of significant interest to the investigation. As has been said, it is not the crime, cut the coverup,” said Buhler.

Detective Buhler, says if anyone calls with tips about Shah’s murder, they will be connected directly to him, without needing to give a name.

“We are not looking to jam them up on every criminal thing they have been involved in. We are strictly in our office, working on the investigation of Abdullah Shah’s murder.”

Adding, Shah’s death has left a ‘vacuum’ in Edmonton, that needed to be filled.

Buhler did not elaborate on how, or if, that connects to other criminal elements, but stressed that a year later, police are still actively investigating Shah’s death.

Anyone who may have any information is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567.
