The 'Worlds Longest Hockey Game for Kids' wrapped up on Sunday in support for the Ben Stelter Fund at the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. As Adam Ziccarelli reports, over $200 thousand dollars has been raised.

A three-day continuous hockey game raising funds for charity and paying tribute to the late Ben Stelter wrapped up Sunday evening.

Edmonton-area kids were on the ice since Friday’s puck drop for the “World’s Longest Hockey Game for Kids.”

All proceeds raised from the action-packed game at Saiker’s Acres in Sherwood Park are going to the Ben Stelter Fund at the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation for glioblastoma research.

Six-year-old Oilers superfan Ben, who became an icon for Edmonton sports fans, passed away last August after his battle with brain cancer.

“The Stelter family are beautiful people, and they’re going to make a difference in what they’re trying to do, so that other children don’t have to go through what their child did,” said Brent Saik of Saiker’s Acres.

The goal of the three-day hockey game was to raise $250,000. Participants raised $200,000 by Friday night.

One player who made his first appearance at the “Longest Hockey Game” was grateful to play his part in making a difference.

“It’s really awesome to help out those people in need, to be out here supporting Ben Stelter, and it’s a fun time,” he said. “I’m gonna probably have this for the rest of my life.”

The young athletes keep their foot on the gas until the final whistle is blown Sunday at 6 p.m.
