Edmonton police issue warrants for man in relation to homicide of 70-year-old

Edmonton police have issued warrants for the arrest of a 43-year-old man following a homicide in central Edmonton last month.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, police responded to a call of reports of a sudden death at a residence in the area of 107 Avenue and 106 Street. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male.

Upon arriving at the scene, police located a deceased male, who was identified as 70-year-old Ronald Bell on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 by the Edmonton Medical Examiner. The death was ruled a homicide.

Donn Austin Gauthier, 43, who is wanted for charges of first degree murder, arson, indignity to a body and breach recognize in relation to Bell’s death.

Investigators were also seeking Bell’s truck, a black 2011 GMC Sierra, that was last seen on video departing the alley between 106 Street and 107 Street and driving west on 107 Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, and the truck was subsequently recovered by Calgary police bearing a stolen license plate out of Spruce Grove at approximately 4:20 p.m

Anyone with information of Gauthier’s whereabouts is asked not to approach but to contact Edmonton police.
