Alberta Health investigating potential privacy breach

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is investigating a potential privacy breach at a decommissioned central Alberta hospital.

AHS says in a statement to CityNews a storage room containing financial and patient records was found open in an old wing of the Didsbury District Health Services in Didsbury, Alta.

“The room was being used to store a number of boxes of documents at the site, which is currently being prepared for renovation. These documents were boxed and ready for confidential disposal by an information management company,” the statement reads.

AHS says their staff reported the room was left open last week.

“In accordance with standard practice, an investigation has been initiated by the AHS Legal and Privacy office to determine whether there has been a privacy breach,” reads the statement.

“This is not the same building where a film production crew has been working, but in an adjacent structure.”
