Edmonton tickets 2,875 vehicles as residential parking ban ends Tuesday night

By News Staff

The City of Edmonton is wrapping up its latest seasonal parking ban, but not before cracking down hard on some drivers.

The city handed out 2,875 tickets during the two-week ban for vehicles that weren’t moved – from Jan. 24 to Feb. 5.

By comparison, the city doled out 1,800 fines during a four-week parking ban at the same time last year.

Meanwhile 243 vehicles were towed this time around.

The tickets are also hitting drivers’ wallets harder this year, as council bumped fines from $100 to $250.

The second phase parking ban will be lifted Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Crews will now focus on clearing cul-de-sacs and spot plowing. That work is completed outside the residential ban.
