Edmonton police looking for two men following vehicle thefts

By CityNews Staff

Edmonton police need help to identify a man they believe is behind two south-side vehicle thefts.

EPS say a Toyota Camry was stolen on the morning of December 18 from the area of 16 Avenue and 32 Street.

A couple of hours later, police received a report of a stolen 2019 Silverado truck near 49 Street and 13 Avenue.

In both thefts, witnesses reported seeing a small black sports sedan and two men – one was said to have been wearing an orange parka.

About an hour after the second theft, Onstar directed police to the truck, which was located in the area of 11 Avenue and 29 Street.

ESP added around 2 p.m., the owner of the Camry found their vehicle parked and locked near 29 Street and 16 Avenue and immediately phoned police.

“While waiting for police to arrive, the male in the orange parka and another male arrived in the same small black sport sedan and attempted to take the Camry. When the owner intervened, the man in the vehicle produced a firearm and threatened to shoot him.”

The Camry was then taken by the suspect. EPS noted it was later recovered on Jan. 7.

The suspect in the sketch is described as a thin man with long blonde hair.

However, witnesses were unable to provide a description of the man in the orange parka.

“Vehicle theft is unfortunately common citywide, but the suspect’s use of a firearm when approached is very concerning,” says Const. Stacy Powell with Southeast Branch Patrol. “Anyone who recognizes this man is advised to not approach or engage him and immediately call police.”

Anyone who has any information regarding the vehicle thefts, is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
