Editor’s note: Police are not confirming or saying the cat was shot, or whether or not the ‘arrow’ came from a crossbow or a bow and arrow.
Edmonton police are looking to identify a suspect or suspects responsible for an animal abuse incident.
Police say on New Year’s Eve, a family reported their cat named Milo as missing after he left their home near 164 Avenue and 59 Street and did not return.
On Jan. 8, 2023, just after 8:30 p.m., Milo’s owners found him on their porch, and noticed he had an arrow through the middle of his back.
The cat was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and found to be suffering from a fever and dehydration.
CityNews spoke to Milo’s owner, who says vets believe Milo had the arrow lodged in his side for a day or two before coming home.
Amy Ganie says Milo is expected to make a full recovery, but vets tell her the arrow “missed his spine and any organs and his stomach just by literally millimetres.”
Ganie says when Milo does get outside, he doesn’t venture far. Making it concerning this likely happened within blocks of her house.
“Unfortunately I don’t think this was an accident, I think it was purposely done.”
The Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit (ACIU), has taken over the investigation and is asking if anyone has any information regarding the cat, to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
