Animal rescue society looking for homes for pets

Infinite Woofs Animals Rescue Society (IWARS) is looking for foster homes for unwanted pets as 2023 begins.

“It’s very easy. You need to have if you own your home, really, you just need to have space and time and lots of energy and love to give,” said Alisha Petryshyn, administrative coordinator with IWARS.

The not-for-profit organization uses foster homes instead of a facility and says they are at max capacity.

“We’re hoping that we can recruit some new foster homes that can help us bring in more animals. There are so many animals that need to be placed in a rescue. It’s just the need is overwhelming.”

Petryshyn says one of the reasons it’s been tough to get new fosters or maintain foster homes is because restrictions have lifted.

“The COVID restrictions are relaxed, people are traveling again, there are fewer people at home, and people are burnt out, people are tired,” she explained.

In 2022, the IWARS rescued and fostered 987 animals, which included dogs, cats, small mammals, and a variety of reptiles. The organization is one of the few in the city that specializes in finding foster homes for a wide variety of animals.

“That is what makes us unique here in Edmonton. There are not a lot of small animal rescues. So we’re looking for fosters in all in all worlds, in all animal worlds,” explained Petryshyn. “The experience is extremely rewarding and extremely just really it’s a lot of fun.”

If you are interested in becoming a foster home for animals with the organization or donating to their cause, you can find the link on their website.
