Animal cruelty unit looking for 5 suspects in October cat killing

Edmonton Police Service’s (EPS) Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit (ACIU) say they are continuing to investigate the killing of a cat in October.

On Oct. 9, officers responded to reports that five men were repeatedly kicking a cat near a bus stop in Evansdale.

“Several citizens, including a motorist who stopped her vehicle and attempted to intervene, witnessed the assault. Witnesses also reported seeing the suspects holding the one-year-old cat while taking photos of one another on their cell phones with the critically injured animal, said EPS in a statement.

Shortly after the owner of the cat reportedly noticed what was happening and went to help their cat, at which point the five men got on ETS bus 113.

ACIU investigators say they were able to get descriptions of the suspects, but say they are generic.

One of the suspects was described as a teen with black or dark-coloured hair and wearing a navy-blue shirt with bold, white print on the front and black, baggy shorts. Another suspect was described as having curly hair that covered his eyes and was wearing black clothing with dirty, white shoes.

Police are asking if anyone has any information to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
