Edmonton police are looking to identify two men following an alleged assault in the northwest that is believed to be hate-motivated.
Police say the incident happened between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. not long after a woman was leaving a store near 114 Avenue and 135 Street.
It is believed as she was leaving the store, a man approached her and demanded the contents from her bag. When she refused to hand over her items the men yelled racial slurs at her.
EPS says after she tried walking away, “The man continued to follow the woman and yell slurs, despite her repeated requests to be left alone. Moments later, the man approached another male nearby who was on a bicycle and obtained a can of bear spray,” said EPS in a statement.
“The man then approached the woman again and sprayed her in the face. Both males then reportedly separated and fled the area, one heading north on foot towards 114 Avenue and the other cycling east on 114 Avenue.”
Paramedics were contacted and the woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The man on foot was described as having an average build and average height and is believed to be in his 30s. At the time of the incident, he was wearing all-black clothing.
The man on the bike was described to be wearing a black jacket and a red hat while riding a black in colours BMX style bike.
Police are asking if anyone has any information to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
