10 shootings in 9 days in Edmonton: ‘And it’s only the middle of December’

In the first two weeks of December, Edmonton police are already investigating 10 shootings. As Carly Robinson explains, police have already recorded more shootings this year compared to last.

Edmonton police are investigating 10 separate shootings over the course of nine days that resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries.

Police say the 10 shootings took place between Nov. 30 and Dec. 8.

“In addition to three deaths being investigated by our Homicide Section, EPS officers are investigating three different people who have turned up in hospital ERs with gunshot wounds so far this month, a house that was shot at while the occupants were inside, and numerous other shooting files, and it’s only the middle of December,” Staff Sgt. Eric Stewart said in a statement.

“Needless to say, our resources are being put to the test, and we do not want to see this violence continue.”

Police say the first homicide in that nine-day period was on the night of Dec. 3. Police say 24-year-old Sanraj Singh was found sitting in a vehicle at 51 Street and 13 Avenue with gunshot wounds. He was declared dead on the scene.

Three days later, police say a man in his 30s was found dead in a home on 117 Avenue and 87 Street. The autopsy determined he died of gunshot wounds.

On Dec. 7, police say they found a 39-year-old in medical distress in a suite near 119 Avenue and 105 Street. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Paramedics attended and declared the man dead. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
