Several Albertans won’t be able to go to Russia anytime soon after they were included on a list of 200 Canadians barred entry by the foreign ministry Saturday.
The Russian ministry responded to the Canadian government’s sanctions imposed on Russia, Iran, and Myanmar Friday. Canada’s list includes 67 individuals and nine entities that are “complicit in human rights violations around the world.”
The UCP’s Nathanael Glubish, David Hanson, and Tyler Shandro have been barred entry into Russia, as have Sarah Hoffman, Deron Bilous, and Lorne Dach with the NDP.
Ena Rudovics, a representative of the Latvian National Federation of Canada in Edmonton is banned.
Shandro says he is “honoured to have been sanctioned by the war criminal Vladimir Putin, who bombs schools and commits acts of terrorism against the innocent.”

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were already on a list of Canadians under personal sanctions from Russia that include a ban on entry. Jim Carrey and Margaret Atwood are also on that list.
