Man charged with impaired driving following 5 car collision Wednesday night

Edmonton police say one man has been charged following a multi-vehicle collision that happened at 23 Avenue and Terwillegar Drive on Wednesday night.

EPS says the crash between a 2013 GMC Sierra and a 2014 Dodge Journey took place around 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of the two streets.

In a statement to CityNews, EPS says “It was reported to police that a 42-year-old male was operating a 2013 GMC Sierra west on 23 Avenue approaching a red light at Terwillegar Drive northbound. At the same time, a 2014 Dodge Journey being operated by a 51-year-old male with a 50-year-old female passenger seat was approaching the intersection northbound on Terwillegar Drive.”

Adding, “It was reported that the GMC Sierra drove through the red light, struck the Dodge Journey sending it eastbound on 23 Avenue.”

It is believed following the initial collision, the GMC was forced across the median into three more vehicles, that were stopped at the red light.

Paramedics treated the driver and passenger of the Journey and both were taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

EPS says the 42-year-old that was driving the GMC Sierra has been charged with impaired driving.
