New Boyle Street facility faces zoning issue; relocation plan on hold

By News Staff

The future of the new Boyle Street facility is now up in the air after the development permit for okimaw peyesew kamik – King Thunderbird Centre – was revoked Friday.

That decision by Edmonton’s Subdivision Appeals Board was made due to zoning issues.

BACKGROUND: Boyle Street Community Services looks to clear up misconceptions amid relocation

Boyle Street claims arguments made by those opposed to the new facility intentionally mischaracterized the services provided, adding they vilified those they serve.

Boyle Street had raised around 75 per cent of the almost $30 million needed for the new facility without taking anything from any level of government. It says it will be exploring all avenues of recourse.

Boyle Street says it does expect to eventually move forward with the new centre, but cautions this delay will impact its work in the downtown core.
