Edmonton police charge man in connection to pair of arsons

Edmonton Police have charged a man in connection to a pair of arsons that happened earlier in the year.

EPS say they’ve been investigating since July 30, after they were called to a fire at a meat shop near 34 Street and 34 Avenue.

Two days later, EPS say they received reports of a man throwing a flammable item at another business in the same area. That thrown item also started a fire in the business.

“This targeted arson occurred in broad daylight with citizens and children nearby,” said Detective Jessie Poonian. “We are grateful that no one was injured and that the fire was quickly extinguished before it had a chance to spread to other businesses nearby.”

Last Tuesday, a 43-year-old man was charged with arson, arson with disregard for human life, possessing incendiary material, and disguise with intent in connection to both fires.

If anyone has any additional information regarding the two fires, they are asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
