Edmonton woman posing as medical doctor charged with fraud, forgery: EPS

By News Staff

Edmonton police say a 36-year-old woman posing as a medical doctor – who falsely appeared on various advertisements as such – is facing a wide variety of charges.

EPS says the suspect was featured on websites, videos, radio and in print advertisements going under the name “Dr. Marie Milne.”

Police say she falsely claimed to be a medical doctor who performed massage therapy, holistic therapies and “quasi-medical techniques.”

Investigators say they became aware the accused was allegedly posing as a medical doctor during a separate investigation last September, in which a document she signed was used as evidence.

Police say the suspect is facing multiple charges, including fraud under $5,000, laundering proceeds of crime, false pretence, obstructing a peace officer and forgery.

Officers say she was also charged with the unauthorized use of the title “doctor” under the Health Professions Act.

Investigators are encouraging other potential complainants to come forward. They believe people may have been treated by the accused thinking she was a medical doctor.

Police say some of that treatment, for example “genital touching under the claim of medical treatment,” could constitute sexual assault.
