Alberta RCMP have charged a man for allegedly trying to import illegal firearm enhancements into Canada.
The RCMP’s Federal Policing Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) says the suspect tried to smuggle – among other items – five pistol selector switches, which can convert a Glock handgun from semi-automatic to fully automatic.
“Through our partnerships with CBSA and the Edmonton Police Service, as well as the assistance of various RCMP members, we were able to prevent these prohibited devices from being illegally imported into Canada and potentially causing significant harm,” said Sgt. Greg Eagle of IBET in a statement.
A 43-year-old man from Spruce Grove was charged with importation of a prohibited device, possession of a prohibited device and smuggling a prohibited device.
The accused is scheduled to be in court Wednesday.
