Alberta’s police watchdog has charged an Edmonton police officer and a former member of EPS in connection to a use of force incident in March 2022.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), says the incident in question took place on March 23, as the officers allegedly used force and a taser to take a man into custody.
ASIRT’s investigation found grounds for the officers to be charged, and the matter was moved to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) to see if it would warrant prosecution – a step ASIRT says is required per the Police Act.
ACPS said evidence found during the investigation met the standards for prosecution, at which point ASIRT charged both Const. Dustin Adsett and former Const. Oli Olason for assault with a weapon and assault.
Both are expected to appear in court on Nov. 9, 2022.
