2 dead including EMS paramedic after collision near Leduc

An Alberta EMS paramedic has died Saturday morning following a collision on Highway 39 in Leduc county.

RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving an ambulance and another car, an older model Buick Skylar, at around 4:04 a.m.

Police say when they arrived to the scene, the driver and lone occupant of the car, a 27-year-old man from Edmonton, and the driver of the ambulance, a 51-year-old woman, were pronounced dead.

The ambulance had no patients on board at the time of the collision, but another paramedic inside sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Alberta hospital in Edmonton.

Preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the Buick was driving westbound on Highway 39 and crossed the center, crashing into the eastbound ambulance and alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor.
