The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Half Marathon event is returning to the city this weekend.
Roughly 500 runners and walkers will take part in the Half Marathon, 10K and 5K in Edmonton’s river valley in support of the Edmonton Police Foundation’s (EPF) youth community programs.
EPS says this year, six-year-old Mason – a brain tumor survivor – will be the Grand Marshal of the event. As Grand Marshal, he’ll be given an authentic police vest and whistle while spending the day with an EPS officer making sure runners are safe.
Mason will be joined by eight-year-old brain tumor survivor Cecily, who raised $1,000 through candy sales for the EPF.
The Half Marathon will begin around 8 a.m. from the Legislature grounds on Sunday Sep. 11, and is expected to end around 11 a.m.
