Suspect in fatal assault in northeast Edmonton in police custody

Police say a suspect who killed one person and injured two others in a “random” attack in northeast Edmonton on Wednesday is now in custody.
Around 2:30 p.m., police say they received numerous calls stating three people had been stabbed near Hermitage Road and Henry Avenue.
EPS saying in a statement, “it was reported that the male suspect first approached the 32-year-old woman at a bus stop and stabbed her. The second woman was reportedly stabbed moments later in her tent, only a short distance away.
“It is believed that the suspect then fatally wounded the 38-year-old male at the intersection of Hermitage Road and Henry Avenue,” the statement added.
EPS issued a dangerous person alert around 3:30 p.m. warning the public to avoid the area as the suspect was armed with an “edged weapon” and is dangerous.

During that time several schools, daycares and businesses within the Homesteader neighbourhood were put into lockdown.
Roughly half an hour later, police issued a follow-up statement saying the suspect was in custody and the alert was cancelled.
EPS say charges have not yet been laid.
