Trudeau addresses Saskatchewan stabbing attacks

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is offering condolences and support for those affected by Sunday’s stabbing attacks in Saskatchewan.

“Yesterday’s attacks in Saskatchewan are shocking and heartbreaking,” he said from the tarmac of the Ottawa airport Monday afternoon.

Trudeau says he has been in touch with the leadership at the James Smith Cree First Nation, and notes his ministers are in discussions with the Nation to offer any support it might need.

Trudeau says he has also reached out to Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.

“[I have higlighted] that the federal government will be there with the resources necessary right now in this time of crisis but also will continue to work as partners in the weeks, months and years to come — through grieving and healing,” he said.

Incidents such as this are becoming far too common, Trudeau says, and like any other incident, Canadians will come together to help each other out.

“This kind of violence, or any kind of violence has no place in our country,” he said. “We’ll be there for each other, be there for our neighbors, lean on each other. Help grieve and help heal.”

The flag on top of the Peace Tower and at all federal buildings in Saskatchewan have been lowered to half mast.
