53-year-old cyclist killed after being struck by car coming off highway: police

Edmonton police say a 53-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a car in the city’s northeast early Saturday morning.

Police believe the cyclist was travelling northbound on 50 Street around 4:30 a.m. when he was hit by car going westbound on the Yellowhead Trail off-ramp.

The cyclist died of his injuries on the scene.

EPS say the 41-year-old driver of the car remained on scene. He was not injured.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision.

The overpass at 50 Street and Yellowhead Trail remained closed as of Saturday around 10 a.m.

EPS’ major collision investigations section (MCIS) is investigating the collision.
