Monkeypox vaccine now available in Alberta through appointments

The monkeypox vaccine is now available to Albertans via appointment.

Alberta Health Services announced Wednesday afternoon that Albertans over 18, who believe they meet the eligibility criteria and have not been exposed to monkeypox at this time, can book an appointment.

Vaccine eligibility requirements:

  • Transgender, cisgender or two-spirit individuals who self-identify as belonging to the gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) community and who meet at least one of the
  • Anyone that has been diagnosed with an STI in the last six months;
  • Anyone planning to have sex outside of a mutually monogamous relationship or have had sex outside of a mutually monogamous relationship in the past 90 days;
  • Anyone who has attended, worked, or volunteered at a venue for sexual contact (e.g., bath houses, sex clubs), may be planning to;
  • Anyone who is a close contact of a suspect case of monkeypox may also be eligible.

Appointments can be made in Calgary, Edmonton, Edson, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer and. St. Paul.

Anyone interested in getting the vaccine must call Health Link at 1-866-301-2668 to review eligibility and book an appointment.
