AMA warns clients of text messaging scam

The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is warning about a scam targetting its customers.

The AMA says it’s gotten several calls about the scam, which comes in the form of a text message, asking recipients to give out personal information, make a payment, or get a refund by clicking a link.

The Association stresses that you should not click the link if you get one of these messages, as the texts are from fraudsters pretending to be the AMA.

“Please know that we will never ask a client to click a link to make a payment, receive a refund, or provide personal information of any kind.” said the AMA in a release on Tuesday. “If you receive one of these messages, the best thing you can do is to report it as a spam, and please – do not click the link.”

If you think you’ve been victimized by scammers, you can report to the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
