Furry friends enjoy full-scale return of Edmonton’s Pets in the Park festival

It might not be the dog days of summer in Edmonton just – but you wouldn’t know it by the look of things Sunday at Hawrelak Park.

Pooches of all breeds and sizes were out for the Edmonton Humane Society’s Pets in the Park festival.

It was the 30th anniversary of the event, which began in 1992.

The day-long festival was filled with animal-friendly events for your furry friends.

There were races, a talent show and dock diving for those who wanted to cool down on the hot day.

It was the Edmonton Humane Society’s first full-scale event since 2019 – before the pandemic.

“Part of it is for fundraising,” said Liza Sunley, the humane society’s CEO. “About 60 per cent of our revenue comes from generous donations, so things like this are very important.

“We also want to celebrate animals and the amazing bond that we have with our pets and the job they bring us, so it’s a time to come together and celebrate as well.”
