Fireworks and other festivities planned for Canada Day 2022

Fireworks are set to make a return for Canada Day celebrations in Edmonton.
If the weather holds out, the fireworks display will begin at 11 p.m. on July 1, over the central River Valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River.
Where are the best spots to watch the fireworks?
- Alberta Legislature Grounds
- Victoria Park
- Ezio Faraone Park (west entrance to High Level Bridge on 109 Street north)
- River Valley Road trail
- Walterdale Hill Road sidewalks and east Promenade
- Queen Elizabeth Park
- 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge)
- On the river (with exclusions listed in closures)
Park & road closures
Kinsmen Park will not be open for firework viewing. Starting at 6 a.m. on Canada Day, the playground and picnic areas will be closed.
While Edmontonians will be able to take boats and other watercraft to watch the show, the river around Kinsmen Park will be blocked off, from roughly Menzies Bridge to the Walter Bridge. If the river levels raise to unsafe levels over the next week, the river could be closed for viewing all together.
High Level Bridge, 109 Street southbound from 97 Avenue and High Level Bridge to 87 Avenue and Menzies Bridge will all be closed as of 9:45 p.m. for all pedestrians until 90 minutes after the end of the fireworks display.
Many roads will see closures resulting in lengthy traffic delays. The following roads will be closed:
- Starting at 6 a.m.:
- 99 Avenue, from 107 Street to 108 Street
- 96 Avenue, from 106 Street to Fortway Drive
- 107 Street, from 99 Avenue to Fortway Drive
- Fortway Drive north, at Royal Glenora Club parking lot entrance
- Queen Elizabeth Park and Indigenous Art Park: ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞ parking lots
- Fortway Road north of Royal Glenora Club parking lot entrance
- Starting at 7:30 p.m.:
- 66 Street, from 28 Avenue to 23 Avenue
- Starting at 8 p.m.:
- Kinsmen Sport Centre and Queen Elizabeth Pool parking lot
- Victoria Park, Site #6 parking lot
- Starting at 9:30 p.m.:
- River Valley Road (westbound traffic permitted only from Victoria Golf Course and Victoria Park)
- Fortway Drive at River Valley Road (westbound traffic permitted only from Royal Glenora Club)
- Starting at 9:45 p.m.:
- Walterdale Hill
- Walterdale Bridge – closed to vehicles; pedestrian access open (both sides)
- Queen Elizabeth Park Road
- 107 Street, from 98 Avenue to Jasper Avenue
- 109 Street northbound, from 87 Avenue to Saskatchewan Drive
- 104 Street, south of 96 Avenue
- Starting at 10:15 p.m.:
- High Level Bridge, closed to vehicles (both directions)

ETS buses will run on regular Sunday schedules with additional service for the fireworks. Capital/Metro line trains will run every 12 minutes until 1 a.m. on July 2.
Other ways to celebrate Canada Day around Edmonton
The Edmonton Valley Zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with regular admission fees. The zoo will have live music, a scavenger hunt, and more, including learning about Canadian animals.
The Muttart Conservatory will be open from Noon to 4 p.m. and will feature crafts as well as circus performer.
Starting at 2 p.m. the 30th annual Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration will showcase stories from Canada’s history.
The Alberta Legislature will be hosting family-friendly activities from noon to 5 p.m., including a pancake breakfast and live performances.
Chinatown will be open with live cultural performances, games, and food vendors from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Also on July 1, the Edmonton Riverhawks will be taking on the Nanaimo Nightowls. Fans will be able to watch the game, starting at 7:05 p.m., and stay for Canada Day fireworks.
