Jay Woodcroft has signed a three-year extension to remain head coach of the Edmonton Oilers.
Woodcroft replaced Dave Tippett as head coach of the Oilers on Feb. 10, when the team had won just seven out of its previous 23 games and was five points adrift of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
Woodcroft went on to lead the Oilers to a second-place finish in the Pacific Division and two playoff series victories. They were eventually swept by the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final.

Previously, the 45-year-old Toronto native was a video coach with the Detroit Red Wings and an assistant with the San Jose Sharks and Oilers.
