Alberta NDP leader Notley outlines election plan at provincial council
Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley outlined an action plan for the next provincial election while addressing the provincial council in Red Deer Sunday.
The next provincial election is May 2023.
“Our party has been shaped and reshaped by amazing members and leaders, and while Alberta’s NDP has changed over the years, we have always risen to defend the values and ideals of modern, progressive Albertans,” said Notley.

It was announced that last year the party raised more than $6.1 million and nominated 33 candidates for the next election. Notley added that half of these were contested.

Notley also highlighted a few key recommendations:
- Using an external source to conduct an independent investigation, mediation and resolution of complaints;
- Designating an independent body to review internal HR policies to ensure the robustness of policies and proper codes of conduct;
- Requiring the executive staff to take additional respectful workplace training.
NDP members will also address the concerns raised by the Constituency Association by the end of July and will complete the vetting of candidates that are currently in the process by August.
Notley contested the UCP’s handling of daily struggles Albertans face such as affordability issues, health care, and education systems.
She says there’s ab overall lack of trust in the provincial government, claiming the NDP aims to make amends.

“Albertans want a government they can trust to act with integrity,” said Notley. “They want a government that’s going to rebuild our healthcare system, fund our schools, and lead us into a more diversified and sustainable future,” said Notley
“Our vision for Alberta is to fix health care and education, not break them down. To create an economy that works for everyone, not just the rich. To lead with integrity and compassion, not greed and selfishness.”
