Some areas around North Saskatchewan River could see flooding

The City of Edmonton is advising Edmontonians to take extra caution around the North Saskatchewan River over the next few days.

Due to the amount of rain, the city is seeing water levels over the next 24 hours are expected to rise.

According to the Government of Alberta’s River Forecasting Centre, the river should hit peak height Friday morning and some areas could see flooding.

Edmontonians should stay out of the river, including in low-level areas and on boats or rafts.

Four trails were closed Thursday morning out of caution due to the rising water level.

  • Emily Murphy Park to Kinsmen Park lower trail
  • Highlands lower trail
  • River loop trail alongside Fort Edmonton Park
  • Gold Bar Park lower trail

 

Additional trails might be closed at a later time.
