EPS looking for additional information in May shooting

Edmonton police are looking for information about a shooting that took place in downtown Edmonton in mid-May.

Police say around 11:15 p.m. on May 19, not long after the conclusion of the Oilers-Flames game, officers reportedly witnessed a man shoot a gun multiple times at another man.

“Two males then reportedly attempted to flee the area on foot but were quickly pursued by officers and taken into custody moments later in the area of 103A Street and 103 Avenue. A firearm was located on the ground nearby, and following a search incident to arrest, ammunition and drugs were also located on one of the arrested males,” said EPS in a statement.

EMS treated a 27-yar-old man and he was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon further investigation, the EPS Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), found multiple bullets at nearby condo buildings.

“This shooting took place not long after a hockey game that saw many Edmontonians partaking in post-game entertainment in the downtown core,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart who oversees FIU within the EPS Drug & Gang Enforcement Section.

“The risk to citizens living in and visiting the area at the time was extremely high and we consider it fortunate that no other injuries were reported.”

If anyone has any information about this shooting, contact the Edmonton police non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
