K-Days, Edmonton’s largest summer fair is returning for the first time since 2019. The vice president of Explore Edmonton says it will look very familiar, but there will be new attractions and lower admission costs.

K-Days is making a return after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic – and there are new owners in charge.

This time, Explore Edmonton will be taking over the largest summer fair in the city after Northlands shut down operations last year after more than 140 years.

But under the new ownership, will K-Days look different?

“Edmontonians love K-Days,” says Arlindo Gomes, the vice-president of Explore Edmonton. “We have hundreds of thousands of people attend the event every year. So this year will look very familiar, but we do have different programs that will look slightly different.”

One of those new programs is a partnership with Indigenous Edmonton where Edmontonians can enjoy a 10-day Indigenous experience, showcasing Indigenous culture and history.

“We have our own dedicated space and you will see an array and a variety of Indigenous experiences such as the foods, the entertainment, residential schools, a truth and reconciliation display,” said Dallas Arcand of the Indigenous Edmonton Entertainment Group.

North American Midway Entertainment will provide the usual rides, with a few new additions.

And despite the cost of inflation, Explore Edmonton is making admission a little more affordable.

“We are focusing on the affordability of K-Days and ensuring every Edmontonian has the ability to attend the event,” said Gomes. “So we reduced admission by 25 per cent across the board, for youth, seniors and adults.”

And for those who want to take it all in, a 10-day pass will be available to purchase.

      K-Days return July 22.
