One man in custody following shooting in downtown Edmonton

A 19-year-old man has been taken into custody following a shooting in downtown Edmonton yesterday.

Police say around 11:15 p.m., not long after the conclusion of the Oilers-Flames game, officers reportedly witnessed a man shoot a gun multiple times at another man.

“Two males then reportedly attempted to flee the area on foot but were quickly pursued by officers and taken into custody moments later in the area of 103A Street and 103 Avenue. A firearm was located on the ground nearby, and following a search incident to arrest, ammunition and drugs were also located on one of the arrested males,” said EPS in a statement.

No injuries have been reported from the incident, but police are still looking for the individual that was shot at.

The 19-year-old remains in custody, but the other man was released without charges.

An investigation is ongoing, but police believe the incident was not related to the hockey game.
