ASIRT investigating after officer-involved shooting in downtown Edmonton

Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after an officer-involved shooting took place in downtown Edmonton Friday morning.
Edmonton police say in the early morning, officers noticed someone with what appeared to be a gun in his hands.
The officers reportedly monitored the individual and requested assistance from Tactical and Canine officers to contain the area around 103A Avenue and 96 Street, for public safety concerns.

EPS says, “the suspect fled from police toward the light-rail transit (LRT) tracks along 95 Street and 105 Avenue where a confrontation occurred and police discharged their firearms. Officers and EMS provided medical aid on scene and the suspect was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later this morning.”
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) and the Director of Law Enforcement were notified of the incident and have begun an investigation.
Edmonton police added no officers were injured during this incident.
