Edmonton police are looking for the occupants of a vehicle they believe are connected to the shooting of notorious landlord Abdullah Shah.
The 59-year-old Shah was fatally wounded in a shooting outside his southwest Edmonton home on Heath Road Sunday night – in the community of Haddow.
He was shot in his driveway, was taken into emergency surgery at the hospital but died of his injuries early Monday morning. Shah’s family was home at the time of the shooting.
“This was a brazen and targeted shooting in a residential area, which placed the community at significant risk,” said Det. Jared Buhler at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Police released CCTV footage Wednesday of a medium-sized grey SUV believed to be the suspect vehicle.
In a seven-second clip provided by EPS, the SUV can be seen pulling into a driveway.
Police believe the vehicle was parked about a dozen houses down from Shah’s residence – on a nearby street – prior to the incident.
Police are asking anyone who would have been in the area of Riverbend Road and Terwillegar Drive on Sunday between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. to check their dashcam or doorbell cam footage.
Police were previously looking for a possible witness driving a light-coloured Toyota 4Runner. Officers have since spoken to that person and determined they are not related to the investigation.
Shah, also known as Carmen Pervez, had a lengthy history with police.
He had been convicted on drug and fraud charges in the past.
“Obviously the community, the media are well aware of Mr. Shah’s profile, we’re aware of Mr. Shah’s profile, but at present our investigation is focused on collecting any perishable evidence,” said Buhler. “In due course, if required, we’ll look at the bigger picture, for the time being we have more than enough work to do to keep us busy.”
