A member of the Edmonton Police Service has been charged following an ASIRT investigation.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) had been investigating an incident that took place in November 2019, when an officer had allegedly injured a man in police custody.
ASIRT said, “the evidence gathered during the investigation provided reasonable grounds to believe that an offence had been committed.”
As per the Police Act, the investigation was taken to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), where it was determined that the officer should be charged.
On Thursday, EPS Const. Michael Zacharuk was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and will make his first court appearance in March.
