Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is shooting down any idea of mandatory vaccinations in Alberta.
On Friday, Kenney responded to a statement from Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos that stated provinces will start looking at mandatory vaccines to fight rising COVID infections.
Alberta’s Legislature removed the power of mandatory vaccination from the Public Health Act last year and will not revisit that decision, period.
While we strongly encourage those who are eligible to get vaccinated, it is ultimately a personal choice that individuals must make. https://t.co/16DcwLqknp

In a tweet, the premier said “Alberta’s Legislature removed the power of mandatory vaccination from the Public Health Act and will not revisit that decision, period.”
Kenney says while the government strongly encourages people to get vaccinated, ultimately, it is a personal choice.
In May 2020, Kenney went on the defensive after similar rumors started spreading, stating Alberta intended to make vaccines mandatory.

“Since 1910, the Public Health Act, or its previous legislation, has had the ability to require mandatory inoculation,” added Kenney. “That’s, as far as we know, never been used and certainly the government has no intention of making that mandatory.”
