EDMONTON (CityNews) — Edmonton police have discovered nearly 90 stolen identities while doing a drug trafficking investigation.
In April, police reportedly received information relating to a home connected with drug trafficking. Police later obtained and executed a search warrant where they found the following:
- Methamphetamine;
- A functioning Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW);
- 111 stolen official identity documents belonging to 89 victims;
- 85 stolen bank cards belonging to 57 verifiable victims;
- 108 stolen miscellaneous cards belonging to 38 verifiable victims;
- hundreds of pieces of stolen mail (banking and CRA documents) belonging to approximately 200 victims;
- Evidence of bank accounts and cell phone contracts obtained using victims’ identities;
- Seven mailbox keys and three parcel box keys;
- And digital scales
“This investigation highlights the significance of keeping a close eye on your mail and the importance of contacting your financial institution when your credit card doesn’t arrive when you’re expecting it,” says Const. Cabantan with the EPS’ Special Projects Team in a statement. “Mail theft may seem insignificant, but the impacts it can have on an individual can be devastating.”
“We are grateful for the assistance we received throughout this investigation from Canada Post and the Safer Communities and Neighborhoods (SCAN) unit,” says Cabantan.
EPS say 41-year-old Jamie Johnman, and 32-year-old Raymond Credgeur are facing over 60 charges collectively.
