PARKLAND COUNTY, Alta. (CityNews) – The RCMP’s counter-terrorism unit has arrested a 26-year-old Alberta man they believe posed an extreme risk to public safety.
Kelvin Maure, from Parkland County, faces 34 criminal charges related to weapons, mischief, make or possession of an explosive and impersonation of a peace officer, after he allegedly made several online posts and comments threatening members of the public and police.
RCMP executed search warrants on several properties in February in Parkland County resulting in the seizure of numerous firearms and other paraphernalia, such an assault vest, ammo, mag pouch with balaclava, and an RCMP shirt.
An investigator told CityNews some of the threats included places in Edmonton.
“It was to the Edmonton area. I cannot comment on specific locations,” said the investigator.
Investigators are attempting to determine whether the accused’s actions were motivated by a specific ideology or if there were broader intentions to his activities.
