EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has arrested and charged a man in a murder almost two decades old.
On May 9, 2002, police were called to a home near 99 Street and 86 Ave. after someone called and said they found a body under a bed.
The body was that of Michael Longmore, 59, and at the time police didn’t have enough evidence to lay charges.
At the beginning of 2019, the EPS Historical Crimes Section opened a review of the case and resubmitted some of the evidence for testing.
“While DNA testing at the time wasn’t sophisticated enough to identify a suspect, today’s technology has made it possible to do so,” said Staff Sergeant Ryan Tebb with EPS Historical Crimes Section.
The tests resulted in a DNA profile that led investigators is a suspect.
“This is exactly why we review historical homicide files.”
Last week, detectives charged Denis Laframboise, 66, with second-degree murder in Longmore’s death.
