Over 170 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, 72 schools now impacted

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Alberta has announced 171 new cases of COVID-19 within the province.
During an update Wednesday afternoon, Alberta Health said there were no new deaths from the virus, keeping the total death count at 254.

Currently, there are 1,495 active cases in Alberta, up four from Tuesday’s update.
Of those cases, 38 people are in hospital including six in intensive care.
Of the 171 new cases, 119 were in the Edmonton zone, 44 were in the Calgary zone, seven were in the North Zone, three in the South Zone, and one was in the Central Zone.
COVID-19 is continuing to affect schools in the province as 72 are now reporting at least one case according to Support Our Students (SOS) Alberta.
The province has confirmed nine schools have been designated as outbreaks, meaning two or more cases have been confirmed in a 14-day span.
Nine AB schools now with 2 or more confirmed cases.

Crescent Heights High School in Calgary and Centre High in Edmonton are the latest to declare outbreaks along with Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks.
