Edmonton police monument vandalized in Ezio Faraone Park

EDMONTON – A long-standing downtown Edmonton statue and plaque have been vandalized, and police are looking for suspects.

Profanities were graffitied on the Ezio Faraone statue and plaque in Constable Ezio Faroane Park, which is located in the Oliver area. Officers say they noticed it while patrolling the area Thursday at noon.

Police say it was done overnight Wednesday and are asking the public for dashcam footage from the area during that time.

Faroane was killed while pursuing a bank robber about 30 years ago. Edmonton police raised money and worked to gain the land for the monument five years ago.

The plaque honouring Const. William L. Nixon was also spray-painted. The acts of vandalism are not the first. Police shared four other occurrences of vandals spray-painting the statue and plaque between 2003 and 2020, aside from this most recent one.
